Manu Of G is one of those DJs whose connection to music goes far beyond simply playing tracks.

With roots reaching back to the late 1990s and early 2000s, and many years behind the decks as a vinyl DJ in Spain, Manu has carried his musical instinct with him through every stage of his journey. Technology changed, formats changed, and the digital world opened new possibilities, but one thing remained: his way of approaching music through feeling rather than formula.

His sets are not built from a fixed script. They develop in the moment.

Genres meet, transitions evolve naturally, and sometimes two tracks suddenly create something completely new. This freedom gives Manu’s sets their characteristic storytelling quality. Each performance becomes its own journey and exists only once in exactly that form.

And sometimes, one of those moments deserves to live beyond the dancefloor.

A spontaneous musical idea developed into Manu’s mashup combining two iconic songs from very different worlds: Depeche Mode’s “I Feel Loved” and The Cure’s “Lovesong.”

After months of waiting, the project has now found a home with Droid9 South America, where Manu’s mashup was released as a free download.

For Manu, this is more than simply another track online. It represents another step in a musical journey that continues to grow beyond the virtual dancefloor. The collaboration with Droid9 South America has already opened the door to further opportunities, with more projects and new ideas expected to follow.

What makes this particular release even more special to me is knowing where ideas like this can begin.

I still remember hearing Manu experiment with this combination during one of his sets in Second Life. What was simply a musical moment back then eventually developed into something that can now be heard and shared far beyond that original set.

That is probably Manu at his best: letting music happen first and asking questions later. 😉

And despite everything developing around his music outside Second Life, Manu has no intention of leaving SL behind. He still enjoys returning to the decks here from time to time and remains connected to the people and musical community that became part of his journey.

Some DJs play music.

Manu feels it.

That was already my impression when I first wrote about him years ago, and fortunately some things don’t need an update. 😉

His sets can move between genres, moods and emotions without losing their own identity. There is always this sense that he isn’t trying to reproduce something he has already done before. He is creating whatever feels right at that particular moment.

And now one of those moments has travelled a little further.

I’m very happy to see where Manu’s musical journey is taking him, and even happier knowing that every now and then we can still catch him behind the decks in SL.
