Pale is a multifaceted creator in Second Life whose work spans art, music, and spatial storytelling. Her creative identity evolved organically — from building and experimentation to recognized art, club culture, and live DJ performance. Rather than fitting into a single discipline, Pale moves fluidly between them, shaping immersive environments where sound, space, and atmosphere converge.

DJane & Musical Background

Pale started DJing in 1993, deeply rooted in vinyl culture and regular record store digging — an era defined by physical media, personal exchange, and scene-driven discovery. Over time, her workflow transitioned into the digital realm, reflecting broader changes within electronic music culture, while retaining the sensibility shaped by her early years.

Her sound has continued to evolve alongside the scene itself. While her DJ identity remains strongly rooted in a trippy blend of minimal tech house and techno, Pale also explores the more atmospheric and laid-back side of electronic music through Trip Hop and Downbeat, including her sets connected with Umami Groove.

Pale’s current setup includes Traktor Pro 3 Scratch, two Allen & Heath Xone K2 controllers, NI Audio 6, a 4-channel mixer, Ableton Live 12 Suite, and the Evolution UC-33 for music creation.

Pale is an active and bookable DJane, performing live and remaining closely connected to underground electronic music culture.

Artist in Second Life

Pale’s artistic journey in Second Life began unintentionally through building and architectural experimentation. Early structures, initially meant as personal space, were perceived as art by others — a turning point that led her to consciously embrace artistic creation within SL.

Her work has since been acknowledged within curated and critical contexts connected to academic and cultural platforms. Art remains a foundational layer of her virtual identity and continues to influence her aesthetics, environments, and approach to space-making.

Clubs & Creative Spaces (Second Life)

Pale is the creator behind a self-built, continuously evolving in-world environment in Second Life:

Earlier incarnation — UNDERPASS & Umani Soul

Pale’s Underpass sim is an evolving project that has changed its shape over time. An earlier incarnation combined UNDERPASS, her imaginary electronic underground club, with Umani Soul, a classy sushi restaurant. Set within her realistically recreated Berlin underpass environment, the project brought together architecture, music, art and social interaction.

Umami Groove — Listening Bar, Lounge & Sushi Restaurant

Following a major renovation, Pale merged her former sushi restaurant Umani Soul with the listening bar at the same location, bringing both concepts together as Umami Groove — a listening bar, lounge and classy sushi restaurant in one. It is set in a realistically recreated underpass in Berlin, known for its dystopian atmosphere. The real-world location has served as a filming location for several Hollywood blockbuster movies. Pale describes her Underpass sim as an ongoing work in progress that has changed over time.

Musically, Umami Groove gives another side of Pale’s identity its own space. The focus moves toward conscious listening and carefully selected personal gems, including Trip Hop, Downbeat and other deeper or more atmospheric shades of electronic music. Rather than simply providing a backdrop for DJ sets, the concept brings sound, space, art and atmosphere together as one experience.

Sometimes a place catches me before I even know how to describe it.
Pale’s new listening bar, Umami Groove, did exactly that. This is not simply another place to hear a DJ set. For me, it felt almost like an acoustic vernissage — a place where sound is presented with the same care and intention as art.

Not every track has to be comfortable or easy. Some may challenge you, surprise you or simply make you stop and listen. And that, for me, is part of what makes this concept so special.

Second Life has always had room for people who appreciate something a little different, and Pale has created a beautiful home for exactly that. A little diamond for those who recognise it as one.
